Tribute to Heroes of Covid-19
Wars are not always fought with planes, guns, tanks or khaki uniformed soldiers on mountains, fields and towns around the world. Some fights are against tiny deadly enemies that have no political interest or motive. Like a parasite they spread while surviving just to create chaos, death and destruction to our bodies, minds and way of life. The battlefield of a Virus has no boarders or lines to cross. It is a silent persistent assassin that is relentless in its pursuit of domination of our human bodies. No one is immune to its attack, but like anyone that survives a war. The stories of survival are grim and scary.
As in all wars there are these brave soldiers that proudly stand on the Invisible battle lines while defiantly shouting ‘We shall not be beaten!’. These are soldiers of a different caliber to the battle weary foot soldier of the khaki wearing kind. These are mums and dads, brothers, sisters, cousins, friends. Only armed with needles, syringes, pills and a kind word of sympathy. Our heroes work with determination against an enemy they know very little about, yet are having to learn how to combat day by day. As the casualties build in their wait rooms around the world these soldiers go to war with little protective armour save for a flimsy gown, gloves, eye protectors and ineffective face masks. Hours become days, days become weeks, weeks become months. Little rest, no contact with their own families and friends. Sacrifice after sacrifice is made in the relentless battle to save lives.
Frustration and sorrow as the death tolls rise. Not only in the civilian population but amongst the battle weary soldiers as well. Important knowledge is lost when ever a soldier succumbs to this rampant silent assassin. Yet they fight on!. We acknowledge those that not only fight in our hospitals and medical facilities around the world. With certainty these front line soldiers and support staff battle in the homes and streets around the world. Always with that fear of what if…. Our over exerted supporters are working in different areas wearing different uniforms of many colours while their weapons consist of thermometers, clip boards, pens, computers and always a sympathetic heart. Their frustrations and sorrows are the same while collecting data or informing another stranger they should seek medical assistance immediately. To our all important first responders of Police, Ambulance or Fire. Soldiers through and through. Responding to those in need with in-trepidation and the fear of knowing, what may attack today may not kill them till a few tomorrows away.
Lets celebrate our all important essential services staff with their bright coloured vests or uniform smocks. They may not be highly skilled in warfare of the silent assassin yet their bravery of fronting and facing the fear stricken masses, is valour at its best. To our politicians who’s powerful armour is a 3 piece suit. Working tirelessly with the weight of countries and a planet to govern while steering its population of millions in the right direction. The rule books tell them what to do and how it should be seen as a victory for their careers. Yet they are fighting a foe that has no rule books and no care for fame or glory.
These are just some of our millions of Heroes around the world battling a formidable silent assassin called Coronavirus or Covid-19. We salute your hard work, dedication, sore feet, tired bones plus your years of training and skills acquired. Most importantly your sacrifices of time, family, health and life.
